Our History

Our History

This is a short historical summary of NTCG Newlife Erdington charting the life of the church congregation and the pastoral leadership since 1962.

NTCG Newlife Erdington was “set in order” with 12 members at Slade Road school hall on the 22 July 1962 by Revd G A Johnson - pastor of the “mother church” NTCG Handsworth – and Revd Frank Morris was appointed as the first pastor.

Before purchasing its current building from the Church of Christ in 2002, the church spent 40 years renting venues in Erdington to hold Sunday worship services. These were Slade Road School Hall (1962-1982), St Mark’s Church (1982-1992)

and Prince of Wales Building & Leisure Centre (1992-2002). Triumphant Church on Broomfield Road was also used during the week.

After Revd Frank Morris, the pastors were Revd Josiah Beckford, Revd Kenford Clarke, Revd Winston Bucknor, Revd Barrington Mullings, Revd Jacqueline Newsome, and Revd David King.  (Revd Spencer Anderson provided interim pastoral cover from January – February 2003)
