Did you know that the word "bible" comes from the Greek word "biblion" meaning "book"! Calling it a book is not technically true in terms of its origins. The Bible is actually a collection of sixty-six separate books compiled into one "library".
The Bible has many contributors but only one Author
This whole collection was written by forty different men, all inspired by God in what they recorded, its original manuscripts are written in three different languages and span a period of about 1,600 years! It is obvious then that many of the writers had never, ever met ... yet the unity and consistency of the Bible's message remains intact.
The Bible is divided into two main sections: the first is called the Old Testament. The second is called the New Testament. The words “Testaments” represent the two (old and new) covenants (or agreements) that God made with mankind and the words were eventually applied to the group of books that explained the terms and purposes of those covenants. The Old Testament has 39 books and the New Testament has 27 books, all composing one harmonious volume with 66 books, 1,189 chapters, 31,173 verses, 773,746 words and 3,566,480 letters! The Old Testament was originally written in Hebrew / Aramaic and the New Testament in Greek
